James Amazing Pools & Decks

Extremely disappointing experience Working with James on our pool renovation has been an extremely difficult and disappointing experience. We are a family with a disabled child. Our pool also carries significant emotional history for our family, as our child drowned in this pool nine years ago. My husband now teaches survival swimming from this pool, so having the renovation completed correctly and on time was especially important to us. We first contacted James on April 16, 2026, but he did not come to the property for the walkthrough until May 8. During our discussions, I repeatedly explained that I wanted a flush spa incorporated into the pool without a waterfall. I reiterated this in writing on May 11. The contract James sent on May 12 nevertheless described a spa with a “large waterfall and spillway.” I pointed this out to him, but the contract was never corrected and I never signed it. Work began May 18, approximately one month after our initial contact. Unfortunately, we experienced repeated problems with communication and construction. Despite my repeated instructions, the spa was constructed with a waterfall/spillway. When I objected, I was told that a spa without one was not possible. This was particularly frustrating because this limitation had never been communicated to us before construction. The subcontractors performing the work also did not appear to have the design information I had provided to James. There were additional problems with the pool shelf and steps. I provided James with a drawing showing exactly what I wanted, but the steps/shelf were constructed incorrectly and had to be addressed again. I also witnessed messages between James and a worker that I found extremely unprofessional and upsetting. Other parts of the project have also required significant rework, including the decking, pumps and plumbing, waterline tile, and vacuum line. We specifically requested a vacuum line multiple times, yet it was installed only after the decking had already been completed. The decking has been removed multiple times. There have been chipped pavers and other construction issues throughout the project. After the pool was filled, we waited several days for maintenance, and the project still was not complete. The original expectation was that this project would take approximately one month. As of August 7, 2026, nearly four months after construction began, the decking is still not correctly installed. Most recently, after the pool had been filled, my husband was preparing to resume his survival swimming lessons when a large portion of the decking had to be removed because we were told it was approximately four inches out of level from one side of the pool to the other. We are paying approximately $45,000 for this project, and the repeated mistakes, delays, rework, and communication problems have been extremely frustrating. I ultimately attempted to terminate the project because of these issues, but we decided to continue because we did not want to delay the project even further. I am posting this review because I believe potential customers should understand our experience before hiring this contractor. He does not behave like a professional, he does not take accountability and is very unprofessional. Please refer to my YELP review for further details!

James and his team did an amazing job on our pool and deck! They extended our pool deck and resurfaced everything, and the results exceeded our expectations. The pricing was very fair, and the quality of the workmanship was excellent. They were professional, reliable, and easy to work with throughout the entire process. We couldn’t be happier with the finished product and highly recommend this company to anyone looking for pool or deck work!

James was transparent with his pricing, stayed organized throughout the entire process, and kept me informed every step of the way. One thing I really appreciated was that he provided links to different suppliers, allowing me to choose my own tile, plaster color, and marble or travertine pavers. It made the experience feel personalized while giving me confidence that I was getting exactly what I wanted. The quality of the workmanship exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t be happier with the final result. Highly recommend! From the start, he was professional, honest, and went above and beyond. Instead of just resurfacing my pool, he helped connect me with the previous product representative to determine the cause of the stains before moving forward. After the diagnosis, he gave me a fair price compared to other quotes, completed the job on schedule, and the quality of the work is outstanding. My pool looks amazing!
